for making the 3rd annual Australian Film Festival a great success! |
To our Audiences, our Partners and Sponsors, our Supporters, our talented Filmmakers, our Crew, our Friends and our fellow Aussies
- a huge THANK YOU! This year's Australian Film Festival has proven a success - we KNOW cinefiles are hungry for high quality, home grown films. To all of you wonderful 5000 film lovers who visited the Randwick Ritz from March 7 – 17 to catch our fantastic selection of Aussie Flicks, we take this opportunity to thank you for following us and allowing us the chance to deliver the best of Australian Film to you. We hope you've had as much fun as we did! |
Our feature films - Swerve, Hail, Burning Man, Red Dog, More 4 Me, L.B.F, A Deeper Shade Of Blue and Redd INC - accompanied by our brilliant 10 short films of the Australian Short Film Festival - proved that Australians make great films of EVERY genre, and to suit everyone's cinematic tastes - these films have together proven, without doubt, that we are world class; and all we need are more of our own audiences to choose Aussie Film at the box office! We urge you to continue doing so.
We thank all of our acclaimed and up-and-coming film makers who have continued to strive and create brilliant storylines that are executed expertly via their musical and cinemmatographic partnerships.
We thank Aussie acting legends Barry Otto and Deborah Mailman for their grace and inspiration during their induction into the Australian Film Walk of Fame to a crowd of 20,000 onlookers - We Salute You!
And we are grateful to present Australia's roots in cinema and TV via the celebration of the Special 40th anniversary screenings of series Number 96. Our support of Green Screen Climate Fix Flicks was a clear show of our support of fellow Australians who are concerned for the continued wellbeing and care of our ecosystems.
We thank our Australian mentors - the best of the best - who worked with us to pass on gold nuggets of industry teachings during our workshops and panel discussions - Ben Ferris of Sydney Film School with the OneShot Film Workshop, Tony Chu from Networking Action for Filmmakers and Actors (NAFA) who presented the FutureFilm Screenplay Competition in conjunction with the AWG, Karel Segers of The Story Department with his Screenwriting Basics Workshop, and Gillian Armstrong, Rowan Woods, Kriv Stenders and Samantha Lang who together presented The Director’s Panel discussion to celebrate the Australian Directors Guild’s 30th birthday.
“We are excited and grateful for the audience response in 2012. We look forward to supporting film and filmmakers during the rest of the year, a wonderful year for Australian film and a fabulous Australian Film Festival in 2013.”
~ Mr. Barry Watterson, Director, Australian Film Festival

…a little note about classification ratingsYou may see that some films on the programme are given a FESTIVAL EXEMPTION CLASSIFICATION rating of R18+.
THIS DOES NOT NECESSARILY mean that the film has any content that would be rated an 18+ film. This is just the way the Classification Board covers itself, and as a way to protect viewers from films possibly rated above what they are comfortable with watching. The AFF is showing films that can be classified into every rating, from, 'G', through to 'PG', 'M', and one 'R18+'. More 4 Me, for example, is a very informative documentary spanning the 'haves' and 'have nots' and at worst depicting a slum - for this reason we would classify it a PG rating ourselves, as a guide. |
